The goal of the Two Moors Pine Marten Project is to restore healthy populations of pine martens to the South West of England. Take a look at the plans for the project over the next few years.

Once very much part of our local woodlands, these animals play an important ecological role in our countryside. Through the Two Moors Pine Marten Project, Exmoor National Park Authority, Dartmoor National Park Authority, Devon Wildlife Trust, Woodland Trust, and National Trust are working together to explore the feasibility of reintroducing pine martens to Devon and Somerset as part of a long-term national reintroduction strategy.

The Two Moors Pine Marten Project is providing free trees for landowners and community groups to help improve their land and support woodland species like pine martens.

Donations to the Return of the Pine Marten appeal will support the Two Moors Pine Marten Project, bringing back this lost native mammal to the woods of Dartmoor and Exmoor. Donations will support the essential ecological surveys and community work required to ensure the safe return of the pine marten before the first releases can be made in 2024. Project partners National Trust, Woodland Trust and Dartmoor and Exmoor National Park Authorities have together pledged £70,000 in funding - but only if DWT can raise at least £20,700 from this appeal. That means every £20 donated is worth almost £90 for pine martens.

The Pine Marten Community Grant offers community and nature groups, schools, businesses and landowners an exciting opportunity to support pine marten recovery in the south west of England.

After an absence of 150 years, pine martens will return to the South West of England. This is the aim of the Two Moors Pine Marten Project.
