Tree Identification Guided Walk at Griggs Field, Fremington, North Devon
About the event
Join Saving Devon's Treescapes and local wildlife ranger, Steve Skirth, for a guided tree identification walk at Fremington's Griggs Field. Can you tell a hazel from a beech? Or an ash tree from a rowan? You should be able to after this session!.
Griggs Field is a local recreational green space. It adjoins Leat Meadow nature reserve which is owned by Fremington Parish Council and is part of Fremington's Local Nature Reserve. It is a small site (3 hectares) of mixed woodland, coppice, scrub and wildflower-rich grassland. This event may take us into Leat Meadow as well as Grigg's Field, time and ground conditions permitting.
Trees are hugely valuable, providing habitats for wildlife and being significant players in nutrient cycling, including the carbon cycle. Yet we don't know enough about our magnificent trees - where are they, what type are they? On this walk we will also be talking about how you can help us by recording the trees which you admire using our recording platform Treescapes (devontreescapes.com). Why not take a look - you may wish to record some trees right now!
This session is part of the spring/summer events series by Saving Devon's Treescapes, a project led by Devon Wildlife Trust on behalf of the Devon Ash Dieback Resilience Forum, and funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, One Tree Planted and other funders.
Tickets are available to book from 1st July.
