Tree Identification Guided Walk at Andrew's Wood, Loddiswell (Wednesday 3 July)
Andrew's Wood,
5 miles north of Kingsbridge, Nr Kingsbridge, Devon, TQ7 4EAAbout the event
Join Devon Wildlife Trust and the Saving Devon's Treescapes project at Andrew's Wood Nature Reserve for a guided tree identification walk. Can you tell a hazel from a beech? Or an ash tree from a rowan? You should be able to after this session!
Andrew's Wood is a delightful reserve in the tranquil South Hams landscape. From the top of the reserve views stretch over the undulating hills as far as the eye can see. Historically, Andrew's Wood was known as Stanton Moor and looked very different with scattered farms, open fields and few trees. Today's landscape is therefore a comparatively new and much more wooded one.
Trees are hugely valuable, providing habitats for wildlife and being significant players in nutrient cycling, including the carbon cycle. Yet we don't know enough about our magnificent trees - where are they, what type are they? On this walk we will also be talking about how you can help us by recording the trees which you admire using our recording platform Treescapes. Why not take a look? You may wish to record some trees right now!
This session is part of the spring/summer events series by Saving Devon's Treescapes, a project led by Devon Wildlife Trust on behalf of the Devon Ash Dieback Resilience Forum, and funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, One Tree Planted and other funders.
This walk will be led by Devon Wildlife Trust reserves officer Claire Inglis, so you will be well looked after.
Joining instructions will be sent out nearer the time.
