Join our Pine Marten Picnic at the Meldon Wildlife Festival
📅 Tuesday 19th August
🕥 10:30am – 4:00pm

Come and find us at Dartmoor National Park's event at Meldon Old Quarry, where we’ll be joining a host of other organisations to celebrate the incredible wildlife of Dartmoor.

Enjoy a free, fun-filled day for all the family, packed with nature activities, wildlife discovery, and outdoor adventure in one of Dartmoor’s most stunning locations.

Learn about pine martens, meet our team, get creative with fun family activities like mask and puppet making, and enjoy a live performance by the amazing wildlife rapper from Nature Voices.

The event has lots going on throughout the day, so why not make a day trip out of it?

Looking for inspiration on what to pack in your picnic?

  1. Create sandwiches inspired by pine marten food sources like peanut butter, egg or jam for a delicious combination of savoury and sweet flavours.
  2. Pine martens often consume nuts and seeds. Make a nutty trail mix with a variety of nuts, seeds, dried fruits.
  3. Create a berry salad with a mix of fresh berries, such as strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries for a refreshing and colourful dessert that you would love as much as a pine marten!
  4. Pine martens live in forested areas, and roasted root vegetables like carrots, parsnips, and sweet potatoes are a great way to evoke the earthy flavours of the woods.
  5. For a playful dessert, create chocolate or peanut butter biscuits and use a paw print-shaped cookie cutter to make pine marten paw print cookies.

Free and no booking required, we can't wait to celebrate pine martens with you!

This event is part of the Meldon Wildlife Festival run by Dartmoor National Park and our stall is part of the Two Moor Pine Pine Martens Bounce Back: The Two Moors Pine Marten Project. The project is reintroducing critically endangered pine martens to the South West of England, helping to restore natural balance to our much loved woodlands and bringing back these fascinating wild creatures to the landscapes where they once belonged. This project is supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Forestry England and a number of generous donors.
