Big Autumn Sow 2025
Calling North Devon communities!
Is there a shared space in your area, or a local planter that could do with a bit of love? Are you a business whose car park edges are looking a bit bare?
The Big Autumn Sow is back! This autumn, we are giving away free wildflower seed to create mini meadows in community spaces across North Devon.
Get together with your neighbours, colleagues or community to create a wonderfully wild wildflower patch or get your street buzzing with mini meadows in pots and window boxes.
The Big Autumn Sow is part of Devon Wildlife Trust's Northern Devon Natural Solutions project, supporting farmers, landowners, land managers and communities to take action for nature.
What to do next
Register your interest in taking part. Your meadow must be in a space accessible by the community, or a large number of people (e.g. school grounds). We will provide you with the seeds, posters and planting guidance.
2. Plant the seeds
Get your community involved! They could bring along spades and help dig, help sow the seeds, or bring along cake and tea to make it an event. Plant in September or October and don't forget to get the landowner's permission before planting!
4. Share your sowing story
Tell us all about your sowing event! We'd love to see photos or videos of your community planting the mini meadows, and hear about your event. Contact our Wilder Communities team.
