Wildlife Champions

What's it all about?

Our flagship project - Wildlife Champions, creates networks of "Wildlife Councils" within schools where children are empowered to make changes in their school grounds and local communities to help wildlife and the environment.

Find out more about Wildlife Champions

We believe connecting children to nature has many benefits - not only to their mental and physical well-being but also to their learning as well as attitudes to caring for the natural world. Watch this video to find out about our Wildlife Champions in Exeter, we hope you're inspired to get involved with us too!

How does it work?

Children are selected to become Wildlife Champions which acts like a school council but for wildlife. Our Wilder Learning team will visit the champions 3 times throughout the year, once per term, to help them with a project of their choice. From learning about the problems with plastic and the sea, to helping hedgehogs on your grounds and in your community. On top of your 3 visits, we also have a celebratory "conference" day where all the schools in that area join together for a day of activities, learning and fun!

Who can get involved?

This programme is aimed at primary and secondary schools. Specifically aiming at ages from Year 2 to Year 9

Networks currently exist in Exeter, Plymouth, South Devon and North Dartmoor. If your school is in one of these areas, get in touch to enquire about costs and joining in the fun! If you are not in these areas please do still contact and we will see what we can do. Please note that from September 2023 there will be a North Devon Wildlife Champions project. Please also get in touch with us to register your interest.
