Chudleigh Knighton Heath
Chudleigh Knighton Heath is a SSSI held by the Devon Wildlife Trust leased from Sibelco, a ball clay extraction company who also provide funding for work on the site. DWT has managed the site since 1970, in 1998 a 21 year lease was granted to DWT.
The nature reserve is 42 hectares of wet and dry heathland with pockets of scrub, small ponds and some interesting herb-rich roadside verges. The site has recently had a restoration period thanks to support from Sibelco. This has allowed extensive scrub clearance and pond creation to take place. Fencing has allowed a previously ungrazed area to benefit from the light grazing of cattle.
