Petition Fish - help our seas, sign a scale today

The Wildlife Trusts are running a campaign to put pressure on the UK’s Governments to provide protection for our seas, and we need your help.

Why are we asking for help now?

The UK’s seas could be some of the most productive and wildlife-rich on Earth, but today they are a shadow of their former selves. For centuries, we have taken our seas' riches for granted, taking too much from them with too little care.

The UK’s seas support more than 50% of the UK’s biodiversity, supporting thousands of plants and animals, from tiny corals to the massive basking shark, the world’s second largest fish.

The UK’s seas are vital to our health and well-being. They provide us with oxygen to breathe and food to eat. The fate of our seas will play a significant part in determining the future of the human race.

What we are asking?

Petition_Fish_2011The UK’s Governments have the power to help our seas recover. They have committed to having a network of Marine Conservation Zones in place by the end of 2012.

The Wildlife Trusts’ hope is that these Marine Protected Areas will create the conditions in which marine habitats and wildlife can recover. Our fear is that they will be inadequate, incapable of offering enough protection against human exploitation.

You can help The Wildlife Trusts in their campaign for effective Marine Protected Areas by signing a fish scale. Each signed scale will then be placed on a Petition Fish. Each fish, containing hundreds of signatures will then be presented to Government.

Nationally, our aim is to present 100,000 signatures to the UK’s Governments in 2012 to demonstrate the overwhelming public support for Marine Protected Areas. Sign a scale and add your voice to the campaign!
