Cricklepit Mill - DWT's headquarters and visitor centre
The sign on the door to Cricklepit Mill says ‘Welcome to Cricklepit Mill, home of the Devon Wildlife Trust’. Founded in 1962, DWT has operated out of a number of different buildings, begged, rented and owned, but it has always harboured a vision of just such a place as Cricklepit – an easily accessible site near a centre of population which is inviting to visitors and wildlife alike. There were many false dawns as DWT searched for such a place but it did not become a reality until 1999, when Cricklepit first came to our attention. Even then, it took seven years to complete negotiations to purchase and to raise the money needed for restoration and conversion. Anyone visiting Cricklepit Mill will surely think that the long wait was worth it!
