Conservation Communities Biodiversity Audits

Parish biodiversity audits

The Conservation Communities project worked in 11 parishes between Great Torrington and Hatherleigh, from 2020 until the end of 2022, to record as much about the natural environment as possible. As part of the project, biodiversity audits have been written for the following parishes: Great Torrington, Little Torrington, Merton, Huish, Meeth, St. Giles in the Wood, Beaford, Dolton, Dowland, Iddesleigh, Hatherleigh.

Parish biodiversity audits aim to provide basic information on the wildlife and habitats found within each parish, and suggest ideas for local action which can contribute to nature conservation on a wider scale. Initially produced in 2015, these updated audits recognise the new biodiversity information that has been generated by the individuals and groups that have participated in the project.

Each audit contains information on:

  • Designated/non-designated sites
  • Other habitats and their descriptions
  • Unconfirmed wildlife sites
  • Nature Recovery Networks
  • Species found in each parish
  • Ideas for local action provided by Devon County Council
